Lochgelly - Loch of Shining Waters
Lochgelly - Loch of Shining Waters is a loose group of volunteers from the locality who are willingly giving up their time and skills to develop an online, non-profit resource site which gathers and centralises historical and present information about Lochgelly in the one location, online.
Information is wide ranging and covers local issues, groups, community events, historical data, media, as well as providing an open policy of debate and allowing the Lochgelly community to contribute article, stories, or raise issues within the locality.
All content is released under a creative commons licence allowing individuals and non profits to reuse, edit and modify, most of the content for personal usage, educational usage, and non profit usage.
Our aims and objectives include:
- To gather and centralise historical and present information about Lochgelly.
- Provide the Lochgelly community with an online platform to encourage open debate on issues affecting Lochgelly.
- Provide the Lochgelly community with an online platform in which anyone from the local area can actively contribute to, and share their interests, raise local issues of concern, and share their opinions and views of Lochgelly.
- Promote and showcase the strong sense of community spirit that is still available in Lochgelly
- Provide local non profit groups with an online platform to help raise awareness of their groups, their social objectives, and all their latest local events, developments, and projects.
- Provide useful and easy to follow articles on how to develop a website by utilising Open Source scripts, that require little technical knowledge, and require even less of a budget, just a willingness to learn a new skill.
- To only use Open Source technologies to develop this website and use this website as a showcase as to what can be achieved through Open Source technologies for any online project.
- Provide useful and easy to follow articles to promote better online practices, online security and safety, and general PC maintenance.
- To release as much content as possible under the Creative Commons License, to give anyone the right to re-use, edit & modify, so long as it is not for profit, and any derivative works is released under the same license.
