Lochgelly West Primary School
There are seven classes in the school. Four other classrooms within the school have been set up; one to accommodate the Nursery which takes three and four year olds, one is a 'Living Room', one is a Resource/Tutorial room and one is a Computer Suite. There is a Support for Learning base and a Library/Tutorial room. The large central Hall is used for P.E, Assemblies, concerts etc. We are fortunate to have a very good school kitchen serving a variety of meals in a separate dining room. This facility, whilst catering for a wide range of dietary requirements also promotes healthy eating and life style. Cultural diversity is reflected in the menu.
A large playground surrounds the school. A wildlife garden and grassy area have been created through Grounds for Learning. The overall outdoor appearance has been improved and also provides a more interesting play area for the children.

Our New Grassy Playground - The plot thickens!!
Lochgelly West Pupil Council have been leading a campaign to rid our grassy playground of dogs' mess. The children in Primary 6 helped by making and laminating posters to ask dog owners to clean up after their dogs if they have used the fenced off area.
After Primary 6 pupils hung their posters on our fencing, when pupils and staff returned to school on Monday 18th January, the signs had been ripped down and had disappeared. Only the cable ties were left dangling on the fence links. On Tuesday 19th January, a pupil walking to school with his mum noticed the posters poking out of the top of a rubbish skip behind the West End Bar. The corners were ripped where the posters had clearly been pulled down. The pupils at Lochgelly West would like to remind all dog-owners and dog-walkers that the fenced area is now classed as part of the playground, therefore the staff and pupils hope to preserve its status as they would were dogs to be fouling within the established playground area.
A Recent Initiative - Revising our School Aims
Our school aims are:
- We want our pupils to feel welcome, valued, included and respected at school, so that they can develop into confident individuals, successful learners, responsible citizens and effective contributors.
- We want Lochgelly West to be an attractive, welcoming place to learn.
- Lochgelly West is a learning school where teachers and pupils plan together so that everyone feels involved in their learning and know where their next steps will take them. We aim to ensure that the talents of all pupils and staff are recognised and that everybody can reach their full potential.
- We value the contribution parents make to our school and will continue to build relationships for the future.
- We aim to further develop links with our school community, working together for the success of all involved.
- We aim to work and learn in a sustainable way, reducing our carbon footprint where we can.
