Remembering the miners' strike

  • 1984: Pickets clash with police at open cast mine near Lochgelly during the Miners' Strike.

Here's a picture from one of the bleaker parts of our local history - the miners' strike of 1984, courtesy of the Herald & Times archive.

It wasn't the happiest time for anyone, but there must be a wealth of stories out there about the strike itself but also about the people on the periphery, the families who struggled through one of the most bitterly-fought industrial disputes in UK history.

If you have a story to tell, please do so on s1lochgelly.

Memories, Nostalgia & History

History doesn't have to be in black & white

Your memory of a local character or a school photo from the last ten years can be just as interesting as wars and Victorians.
