Lochgelly Tae kwon do students do the gala!
12 Students from Lochgelly Tae kwon do put on a display of Tae kwon do at the Lochgelly Gala on Sunday 22nd August.
Led by their instructor Robert MacGregor, the group warmed up then demonstrated various patterns - most of the team demonstrated yellow belt pattern Dan Gun, and Robert did 4th Dan pattern Ul Ji, to give the crowd an idea of the changes in difficulty and the progression in power and technique.
Robert and senior student Mike Ferguson then showed advanced “one-step” sparring and the whole class joined in for free sparring, showing fighting spirit and excellent self-control.
Finally the group showed flying kicks against the big kick shields then standing kicks against breaker boards.
Robert explained that they had tried to show some of the things that people would typically learn in one of his classes, so that people watching could get a fair idea of what actually happens and the things that can be achieved at various stages of training.
Lochgelly Tae kwon do has its regular classes on Tuesday and Thursday evenings throughout the year from 7 to 8pm and beginners from the age of about 8 upwards are welcome although parents of younger kids may register their interest in a “Little Ninjas” Tae kwon do class which it is hoped may start in the new year.
If you want to find out more about this group go to www.lochgellytaekwondo.co.uk (where you will also find contact details) or pop along to a class for a look and a chat.
