Lochgelly's famous export featured on BBC show

Lochgelly – and one of its most famous exports, the Tawse – were featured in a recent edition of the BBC’s One Show.

The feature, on Monday 15th August included interviews with Margaret, daughter of local tawse manufacturer John J. Dick, Simon Payne, a teacher who used the belt, and Ian Rankin, who shared memories of getting the belt at school. At the height of the belt’s use, as much as 70 per cent of the straps used in Scottish schools were made in Lochgelly

Genuine old lochgelly tawses are now  very collectable and valuable. churchantiquectr@aol.com buys and sells lochgelly stamped belts on the internet and by post/cheque or cash from our base in fife. 01383 616231. or 07950 923814.     The lochgelly demonstrated by the ex-teacher on the One Show is worth at least £200 - its original purchase cost around £1
