New environmentally-friendly street lights on Lochgelly High Street have been hailed a success

New environmentally-friendly street lights in Lochgelly have been hailed a success by Lochgelly residents at the end of a trial period.

The lights were installed on Main Street and Lumphinnans Road in Lochgelly, providing a 'whiter' light which, even operating at reduced power, appears to provide as good a level of illumination as the old orange lights. The new lights are also fitted with technology to allow them to be monitored from a central location and lighting levels to be varied during the night.

A public consultation on the impact of these new lights has been conducted, and initial findings of the consultation have been very positive.

The old street lights in the trial areas have now been turned off. These will start being disconnected from Friday 5th February, and will be removed shortly afterwards.

The carbon emissions generated by street lights currently represent 10% of the Council's total carbon output.
