Speeding

by Roadwatcher

There has been a huge increase in the amount of traffic using South street Lochgelly to get to and from the motorway. This has resulted in more speeding, noise, danger and pollution. The traffic calming measures at present do nothing to limit or prevent this ongoing situation. A new road survey with regards to speed and volume of traffic needs to be undertaken.

I hope the Lochgelly Charette considers the situation in South street when planning to enhance peoples lifes and improve the enviroment. If the planned housing development at the avenue goes ahead, the situation in south street could become unbearable.

To the south we have the motorway which pumps out a racket 24 hours a day, beyond that mossmorran with its occasional booming and flaring.

Is south street to become a slip road for the motorway in the new Lochgelly.

I regularly see groups of children passing along south street heading to the local primary school. With traffic passing within two feet of them, travelling at 40-50 mph, and this is in a 20mph zone.

All drivers know that kids are unpredictable on the street, and that care needs to be taken, but somedrivers using south street simply ignore this.

Hit a child at 40 and it's dead

I totally agree with the comment above i live nearby and have young children. I am terified to let my children have the freedom to play as these are very dangerous roads its an accident waiting to happen.

Why do we even have the speed ramps, they are a waste of time and money, money would be much better put to use by installing, the same that is in Hill of Beath, the road is staggered, cars have to give way to oncoming traffic, surely that is a better way, plus it would cause no damage to cars as some of the speed ramps are way too high.

I agree with David Smith, speed humps are not the answer. They encourage drivers to speed up in between the humps, or swerve back and forward across the road in order to drive over the humps. They cause damage to vehicles, with accidents due to stressed wheels and suspension. They slow emergency vehicles. They take the drivers eye off the road towards the hump.

Allow us to look at the humps at the Avenue. The very first hump is dangerous. I would invite any council worker to drive over it at the designated 20mph and report what damage is done to their vehicle. This first hump is higher than the others and is scored across the top fom various vehicles. I know of several drivers who have entered Lochgelly at 20mph only to be launched into the air due to this hump. One such driver was with a loaded 7.5 tonne truck, this caused stock to be thrown everywhere!!

I would also love to know if the fire engines from the local fire station use this road, or do they have to go a longer route in order to access the dual carriageway to Kirkcaldy, either way they are delayed each and every callout.

The answer to speeding in South Street, and the Avenue, is a staggered road. BUT please do not design it like the Lumphinanans entrance to Lochgelly. I'd like to know what idiot thought it was a good idea to have cars travelling in both directions pointing towards each other. There is an accident going to happen someday.
