UNICEF Day for Change 2012 at Lochgelly West
Fundraising Fun at ‘The West!’
On Friday 3rd February Lochgelly West Primary School’s hall was awash with black, red and yellow bunting. Why? Well, these are the colours of Uganda, the West African country UNICEF is supporting in a ‘Day for Change 2012.’
The Pupil Council organised a fundraising event to help raise money for children in Uganda. The school hall was full of activities for parents and pupils to enjoy and instead of wearing our school uniform we paid £1.00 to come to school dressed in the colours of the Ugandan flag.
Activities in the hall included; a Bring and Buy Sale where toys and books could be bought for the bargain price of 50p! Face Painting, A Treasure Hunt, Guess the Weight of the Cake, Guess the Dog’s Birthday and a raffle. The children could also pay £1.00 to take part in ‘Football Friday’ a ‘Friendly in the Field.’
There was also a Fairtrade café, sponsored by Lochgelly Co-op and the Parent Council selling Fairtrade tea and coffee with biscuits iced in the Ugandan colours.
The children invited along their families and everyone had a fantastic time. Mrs Pryde, the headteacher was beaming when she announced, “Well, this idea was grand wasn’t it! As a school we have raised £601.00. What an achievement for a small school like ours!”
The Pupil Council would like to thank the children, staff, family and friends of the school for their generous donations and for coming along to support this event on the day. A special thanks to Lochgelly Co-op and the Parent Council for sponsoring the Fairtrade Café. The fantastic amount of money raised would not have been possible without their support.
