Speeding in Lochgelly

There has been a huge increase in the amount of traffic using South street Lochgelly to get to and from the motorway. This has resulted in more speeding, noise, danger and pollution. The traffic calming measures at present do nothing to limit or prevent this ongoing situation. A new road survey with regards to speed and volume of traffic needs to be undertaken.
I hope the Lochgelly Charette considers the situation in South street when planning to enhance peoples lifes and improve the enviroment. If the planned housing development at the avenue goes ahead, the situation in south street could become unbearable.
To the south we have the motorway which pumps out a racket 24 hours a day, beyond that mossmorran with its occasional booming and flaring.
Is south street to become a slip road for the motorway in the new Lochgelly.
I regularly see groups of children passing along south street heading to the local primary school. With traffic passing within two feet of them, travelling at 40-50 mph, and this is in a 20mph zone.
All drivers know that kids are unpredictable on the street, and that care needs to be taken, but somedrivers using south street simply ignore this.
Hit a child at 40 and it's dead.
The 'box' on a lamp post in South Street is for monitoring the volume and speed of traffic!!!
The problem with traffic speeding in the south of Lochgelly is not confined to South street, Sunnyside place, Small street, Hamilton street, Mid street, Church street, Buller street, Well road and High street where there is a primary school are all affected.
Traffic moving from the centre of the town to and from the motorway use these streets as shortcuts, this subjects all the residents to increased noise, pollution and danger.
The distance from the motorway to the centre of the town using Auchterderran road, and Bank street is only two or three hundered yards, compared to using the Avenue and South street.
One radical solution would be to close the top half of the avenue, place no entry signs at the opening to the old Just inn, and at the small factory site, half way down the Avenue. Emergency vehicles could use it.
This would turn the south of lochgelly into a quiet safer place
It seems that all traffic speeding problems are confined to the south side of the town. This is not the case. The north-western part is equally problematic, one through road in particular being Melgund Place/ Stewart Crescent/ Cartmore Road (linking Main Street to Station Road).
Reducing the speed limit within the whole town seemed commendable for the safety of residents. However, signs (and speed 'cushions') are apparently a waste of money, for they are almost totally ignored throughout by young and old, in the obvious absence of enforcement back-up. Moreover, the 20 mph limit may actually be dangerous by creating a false sense of security to some pedestrians.
Shutting off roads and inconveniencing law abiding motorists is not the answer. Let us have more respect and enforcement for the present restrictions.
